Sustainability Milestones

2021

Yapı Kredi joined the Science Based Targets Initiative to become the first Turkish company to commit to reducing its emissions in line with requirements of “Business Ambition for 1.5°C.”

As a demonstration of its financial support for green projects and investments, Yapı Kredi declared that it will not finance new coal fired power plants and new coal mining projects.

Yapı Kredi became one of the supporters of the Task Force on Climate Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD).

The Bank became one of the five companies from Turkey included in the 2021 Bloomberg Gender Equality Index (GEI).

Following the certification of its Banking Base, Yapı Kredi also received a Zero-Waste Certificate for its Head Office building.

Yapı Kredi published its responses to the 2021 CDP Climate Change and Water Security Programs.

The Bank launched its electric/hybrid vehicle loan program.

2020

Yapı Kredi published its first Integrated Report.

The Bank received a Zero-Waste Certificate for its Banking Base with its Zero-Waste Project.

The Bank was ranked among the CDP 2020 Water Security Program Leaders of Turkey by receiving the highest ranking (A- (Leadership)) in the Turkish financial sector for the second time in the CDP Water Security Program.

Under the leadership of the Women Entrepreneurs Association of Turkey (KAGIDER), the Bank received the Equal Opportunity Certificate (EOC) developed with the support of the World Bank.

Yapı Kredi expanded its sustainable and innovative product portfolio and issued its first green bond.

Yapı Kredi launched the nature-friendly mortgage.

The Bank expanded the scope of the ISO 14064 1 certificate to cover all its buildings including its branches and affiliates.

Yapı Kredi obtained the ISO 14046 Direct Water Footprint Certificate for its Head Office and service buildings, becoming the first financial institution to comply with this standard in Turkey.

2019

The Bank was ranked among the CDP 2019 Water Security Program Leaders of Turkey by receiving the highest ranking (A- (Leadership)) in the Turkish financial sector in the CDP Water Security Program.

Yapı Kredi became one of the founding signatories of the Principles for Responsible Banking (PRB) of the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI).

As of 2019, in order to further integrate Equator Principles into its environmental and social risk assessment system, Yapı Kredi revised the threshold of the assessment system from “at least 3-year maturity and a loan amount above USD 20 million” to “all new investment and project financing loans above USD 10 million”.

Yapı Kredi included projects above USD 10 million that are provided with project finance advisory services in its “Assessment of Environmental and Social Risks in Lending Activities” procedure.

2018

Yapı Kredi issued its first report under the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) Water Safety Program.

The Bank participated in the Business World Against Domestic Violence Project and carried its "Business Against Domestic Violence Policy" into effect.

2017

The Bank became a founding signatory of the Global Compact Turkey’s Declaration on Sustainable Finance that represents a sectoral collaboration within the scope of the activities of the Global Compact Turkey Sustainable Finance Working Group.

Yapı Kredi was included in the FTSE4Good Emerging Index maintained by the global index provider FTSE Russell, a subsidiary of the London Stock Exchange Group, which measures companies’ ESG performances.

2016

Yapı Kredi joined the WEPs platform created under the partnership of the United Nations Global Compact Agreement and United Nations Women (UN Women).

Yapı Kredi prepared its first response to the CDP Climate Change Program.

Yapı Kredi joined the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative by signing the Environment and Sustainable Development Statement to reinforce its commitment to sustainable development.

Yapı Kredi established an Environmental Management System (EMS) by certifying its head office buildings, the Yapı Kredi Plaza D Block, and the Yapı Kredi Banking Base with the ISO 14001 to systematically manage its environmental impacts.

2015

Yapı Kredi published its first Sustainability Report in compliance with the GRI G4 standards.

An independent audit was performed for the first time on selected indicators of the Sustainability Report (energy, emission, finance, occupational health and safety, employee training, anti-bribery and anti-corruption, and human rights).

2014

Yapı Kredi was included in the Borsa İstanbul (BIST) Sustainability Index.

The Bank established its Sustainability Committee in charge of the integration of sustainability practices into its business processes and monitoring its sustainability performance.
